HOW TO ENSURE SAFETY ON SITE

Each year, there are injuries and accidents on site related to the machine and equipment operation. A lot of these accidents involve the operator, but many involve people on the ground and co-workers.

GUIDELINES FOR A SAFE SITE

  • Personal safety equipment must be worn as prescribed for each job, safety glasses for eye protection.
  • Hard hats at all times within the confines of the construction area where there is potential for falling materials or tools; gloves when handling materials; and safety shoes are necessary for protection against foot injuries.
  • If someone on site comes into contact with an acid or caustic substance, rush to the nearest water available and flush the affected part. Get medical attention immediately.
  • Walk, don’t run on site.
  • The use of illegal drugs or alcohol or being under the influence of either is prohibited. Workers should inform their supervisor if taking strong prescription drugs that warn against driving or using machinery.
  • Workers should not engage in any act which would endanger another employee.
  • Do not use a compressor to blow dust or dirt from clothes, hair, or hands.
  • Never move an injured person unless it is absolutely necessary. Further injury may result. Keep injured as comfortable as possible and utilise site first-aid equipment until an ambulance arrives.
  • Nobody but the machine operator should ride on equipment unless proper seating is provided.
  • Workers should not use power tools and equipment until they have been properly instructed on safe use.
